News - 2018 - July

FATA was awarded an EPC contract in Bahrain to expand the industrial port of Aluminium Bahrain (ALBA), one of the largest aluminium producers in the world

The contract, worth about 80 million USD, aims to enhance the capacity of the unloading, handling and storage of raw materials (alumina and petroleum coke).Such works are necessary to comply with the expansion of the line 6 of the ALBA smelter that, once completed, will transform it into the world’s largestsingle-site smelter with a total production capacity of 1.5 million tons per year.

FATA, as main contractor, will be responsible for engineering, construction of civil works, handling systems and their installation,in addition to managing the interface between the main suppliers and sub-contractors.

FATA’s construction site will start its operations at the end of July 2018 and the works, which will last approximately 20 months, will include themodernisation of the conveyors carrying the raw materials from the wharf to the storage area, the demolition of a building and the construction of twosilos in the same area, the expansion of the existing jetty. Construction works will be carried out mainly by local companies, and 400/450 workers willbe employed at the peak of activity.

The project, named "ALBA Port Capacity Upgrade", will involve different activities: the changes will also cover existing plants in continuous operation,so that works will be performed in restricted and crowded areas, and the construction activities will be coordinated day by day in compliance with theoperating needs of the port.

Moreover, this project is important for the FATA-Danieli synergies: the installation work will be executed by Danieli Construction.

This contract demonstrates once again FATA’s ability, both organisational and technical, to face new challenging projects thanks tothe expertise acquired over the years.
